Ceiling Fans

With the summer weather arriving one home fixture that can be a problem for homeowners is the ceiling fan. Most modern homes have at least one and many homes have one in nearly every room. The ceiling fan may come with lighting which makes it more complex to troubleshoot and repair. In this blog we will provide information on this essential product – the ceiling fan.

Ceiling fans come in a wide range of colors, lighting options and styles. They give character to a room while also keeping the air moving. But it is not unusual that at some point they may need repair. If your ceiling fan is wobbly or noisy, stays on a single speed or simply won’t turn on, then it’s time to call in an electrical expert to identify the issue and offer remedy.

If a ceiling fan comes with a light fixture and is flickering the most obvious problem is a loose or dying bulb. However, it can also be indicative of a loose connection or fluctuation in voltage and these are more serious problems. While we applaud DIYers, it is also our opinion that addressing electrical issues should be delegated to professionals so think about contacting an electrical service company to troubleshoot the problem.

Wobbly ceiling fans can be attributed to something mechanical in the device. Perhaps screws may be loose, or brackets bent. A wobbly ceiling fan requires attention. The same is true of a noisy ceiling fan where the noise can be traced to a mechanical problem that requires attention.

Finally, if a ceiling fan will not turn on or otherwise operates at a low speed, then the trouble could be mechanical or electrical. The fan may be so old that it would be cheaper to replace than repair, or it may simply need to be taken apart and lubricated. However, if there is a problem with the wiring within the fan or the electrical connections, then it is a good idea to bring in a professional electrician to determine how best to proceed.

Ceiling fans are an excellent appointment and finishing touch in a home. But, like all appliances they require attention and care to ensure you are maximizing their usability while also remaining safe.
