LED lighting is becoming more popular
Traditional lighting is a thing of the past; thanks to LED innovations it is possible to improve the energy efficiency of your home. In this article, we’ll list the main benefits of LED lighting and why you should use it in your home.
Advantages of using LED lighting
Energy-saving: LED bulbs consume 80 to 90% less energy than conventional bulbs or halogen lamps. LED bulbs do not have filaments, but rather light-emitting diodes., LEDs are semiconductor electronic components that emit light when an electric current passes through them. The energy difference compared to halogens is substantial; with 15% of the cost of a halogen, an LED bulb provides the same light.
LEDs last longer: Compared to halogens, LEDs are more energy-efficient and economical. The LED bulb will cost more initially; however with the average life of a halogen bulb around 2,000 hours an LED will last almost 15,000 hours. So the LED bulb will last almost 8 times longer, which justifies the higher purchase price.
LED bulbs do not get hot: Halogen bulbs are older style bulbs that were made with iodine and bromine in a gaseous state. Their operation is simple; the filament is heated, as in a conventional light bulb, so most of the energy is lost in the form of heat. Although the life of halogen bulbs is longer than the life of incandescent bulbs, it is still short. Their energy efficiency is between 15 and 20%. On the other hand, LEDs do not get hot.
